Governor Américo, Mexican and U.S. authorities strengthen actions against bovine tuberculosis

Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. - Since the start of the current administration, the Government of Tamaulipas has launched an intensive campaign to comply with the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Program, allocating nearly 120 million pesos to animal health campaigns to restore the livestock status that was downgraded in 2020, reported Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya.
In a virtual binational work link, the Tamaulipas president met with authorities from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), as well as the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the National Service of Health, Safety and Agri-Food Quality (SENASICA) and the Regional Livestock Union, where he highlighted the different campaigns and actions that, with the support of the federal government, are being implemented in the state to achieve certification of the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Program in Tamaulipas and obtain reclassification as a modified accredited program (level III).
He explained that the State is carrying out diagnostic tests for tuberculosis, acquiring stainless steel equipment for 10 municipal slaughterhouses, and acquiring eight vehicles equipped for traffic control, primarily in the Tamaulipas-Nuevo León and Tamaulipas-San Luis Potosí buffer zones.
Additionally, livestock inspectors have been hired and four working groups have been established to ensure that Tamaulipas cattle exported to the United States meet strict health standards.
During the virtual meeting, in which he was accompanied by Antonio Varela Flores, Secretary of Rural Development, Fisheries, and Aquaculture, the Tamaulipas governor reiterated that he will be attentive to the field work carried out by the inter-institutional team during its visit to livestock farms and reiterated his confidence that the actions undertaken will continue to promote the development of the state's livestock industry.
