New Zealand attracts more than $2 billion in foreign direct investment

Nuevo León breaks records for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with $2.098 billion. The reinvestment of profits demonstrates the confidence of established companies.

Nuevo León is consolidating its position as Mexico's economic powerhouse. The state attracted a record $2.098 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the recent period, demonstrating strong confidence from global capital.

In a strong display of economic strength, Nuevo León has attracted $2.098 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the most recent reporting period (January to December 2024), reaffirming its leadership as the preferred destination for international capital in Mexico.

This figure not only underscores the success of the state's strategy to attract capital through nearshoring, but also reveals deep confidence on the part of companies already operating in the region.

Breaking Down the Billions

A detailed analysis of FDI provides a deeper insight into the state's economic health. The total figure is as follows:

* Reinvestment of profits: $3.846 billion. This is the most significant component and the most powerful indicator of confidence. It means that companies already operating in Nuevo León are reinvesting their profits in expanding their operations, rather than taking capital elsewhere.

* New investments: $421 million. This represents the arrival of new companies and projects in the state.

* Intercompany accounts: -$2.169 billion. This figure, although negative, is common in FDI records and refers to transactions and loans between subsidiaries of the same corporation, so it does not diminish the positive impact of reinvestment and new investments.

Reinvestment of profits is the strongest possible vote of confidence. While new investment is based on projections, reinvestment is based on real and successful experience operating in the state, confirming that the business environment, workforce, and logistics are favorable.

Where Does the Money Come From?

Nuevo León's diversification strategy is evident in the source of investment. The main countries investing in the state are:

* United States: With 841 million dollars.

* South Korea: With 626 million dollars.

* Netherlands: With 390 million dollars.

This diversity of capital sources, with key partners in North America, Asia, and Europe, gives Monterrey's economy greater resilience to the economic cycles of a single region.

An Ecosystem Favorable for Growth

This success in attracting FDI is reinforced by initiatives such as the new Law to Promote Investment and Employment, designed to accelerate this trend. At the sectoral level, although there is no specific breakdown for the state, national trends indicate that manufacturing, energy, and transportation are the main recipients of investment, a profile that fits perfectly with Nuevo León's industrial vocation.
