The mayor of San Miguel de Allende wears a Rolex watch to demonstrate the municipality's high security.

SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto. (apro).- The multiple homicide of three adults, two men and a woman, that occurred in the Lomas de San José neighborhood broke with the discourse of Mayor Mauricio Trejo Pureco, who boasts that he wears a Rolex watch valued at more than half a million pesos as a sign of security in the municipality.
"The mayor of San Miguel de Allende should bring a good watch to show everyone that in San Miguel de Allende you can walk the streets without having it stolen, so it's my obligation to bring a good watch, to show that there's no crime here. At least the watches are safe," declared the PRI mayor on June 13.
Six days later, a multiple homicide occurred inside a home on Santa Clara Street, where two minors were also injured.
The press release issued by the San Miguel de Allende Citizen Security Secretariat states that the massacre is the result of a confrontation between two criminal gangs: "According to initial investigations, the events arose from a confrontation between rival gangs."
Furthermore, it has been revealed that one of the murdered individuals, identified as Jesús Humberto, belonged to a motorcycle theft gang and had a criminal record for public health offenses, although just a few days earlier the mayor had asserted that crime is free in the municipality.
According to the municipal authorities, two trucks with armed men arrived at the home where the victims were located and began shooting, leaving spent shell casings and visible damage to the facade and interior of the building.
The attack, which left three adults dead and one minor hospitalized, occurred early Thursday morning while the mayor was out of town.
In the same interview in which he spoke about his luxury watch, suit, and shoes, he announced that he would be out of town from June 18 to 26, without specifying the reason for his absence. "I'll be on call 24/7, but I won't be in the mayor's office," he said.
Mauricio Trejo Pureco spoke about his outfit after a local media outlet revealed he was wearing a watch valued at more than half a million pesos.
"I think my outfit, from the look on my face, is intangible. First, my face is intangible. Then we have to continue with the gel, then the little outfit costs more than 50 (thousand pesos). My brothers pay for all of that with the profits from my businesses. The socks, since they're compression socks, are cheap, they're from a cheap pharmacy. The shoes are a bit expensive, Nivea cream, I'm not mad at you, and the watch is also a bit expensive," she boasted.
Now they are all successful businessmen. My obligation is to bring a good watch to prove that there is no crime here:

Trejo Pureco asserted that the investment of more than 300 million pesos in security had been successful in San Miguel de Allende, following a spike in intentional homicides in the municipality during the months of December and January.
"We're halfway through the month. If we continue on this path, we're going to have a huge surprise at the end of June, which has to do with certainty, with the strategy working, with the multi-million-dollar investment working," he said in the June 13 interview.
