The number of self-employed people with more than one job has increased by 50% in five years.

The number of self-employed individuals engaged in two or more activities has experienced significant growth over the past five years, increasing by 50% to 269,146 people, according to ATA data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. This is 85,937 more than in 2020.
These professionals are those who contribute simultaneously to the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA) and another Social Security regime, such as the General Regime, for performing two or more different work activities. They may be self-employed or a combination of self-employment and employment.
In the last year, pluriactivity has increased by 9.4%, with increases in all autonomous communities, especially in the Balearic Islands, where a 14% rise was recorded.
There were also significant increases in the Valencian Community (11.5%); in Catalonia (10.3%); and in Andalusia (10.1%). The most moderate increases were in Castile and León (5.4%); in Aragon (6.2%); and in Asturias (6.6%).
In absolute terms, one in two self-employed workers with multiple jobs is located in Catalonia, Madrid, or Andalusia. In the first of these three autonomous communities, there are 50,167, compared to 47,555 in Madrid.
The number of self-employed workers, whether or not they have multiple jobs, is also increasing in Spain. According to Social Security data, the 2024 financial year ended with nearly 3.4 million self-employed workers, the highest level for a December recorded to date.
Another trend is the sharp increase in the number of self-employed workers among nationalities other than Spanish. ATA President Lorenzo Amor explained a few days ago that of the 108,155 new members since 2021, the majority, 104,338, fit this profile.
