Will the MTU affect the 2025 Christmas bonus payment? What you need to know

With the User Transaction Amount (MTU) going into effect this October 2025, bank transfers are capped at 12,800 pesos per month , unless users modify this maximum amount from their banking applications.

This has raised questions about whether the MTU could affect the delivery of the Christmas bonus , the annual benefit that companies must pay before December 20 , according to the Federal Labor Law.

• The MTU limit applies only to transfers to third parties; it does not affect card payments, cash withdrawals, or transactions between your own accounts.
• Therefore, your bonus will be deposited in full, but if you want to make transfers that exceed the limit, they may be stopped until you adjust the maximum amount.
• Experts recommend reviewing and updating your limit before December to avoid inconveniences when receiving or transferring your Christmas bonus.

According to Article 87 of the Federal Labor Law, all workers are entitled to an annual bonus equivalent to at least 15 days' salary , which must be paid before December 20 .

In some cases, through an agreement between employee and employer, the payment can be split, with part of the payment being delivered at the beginning of the following year.

• Commission agents, commercial and sales agents governed by the LFT.

The term refers to receiving double one's salary as a bonus, but it is not officially regulated by the Federal Labor Law. Recently, it was proposed to increase the bonus to 20 days' salary, but this reform has not yet been approved.
