Why does the nose bleed in hot weather?

With the high temperatures brought by the hot season, many people begin to experience ailments such as headaches, rashes, cramps, dehydration, exhaustion, and even nosebleeds.
This last symptom is known medically as epistaxis. Is this normal? How can it be prevented? We'll share the information here.
Why does your nose bleed in the heat? The Mexican Social Security Institute ( IMSS ) explains that there is a direct relationship between heat and nosebleeds, since in this climate, blood vessels dilate commonly, which can even lead to rupture.
Otolaryngologist Juan Rosas Peña points out that temperature changes, low humidity levels, and a lack of lubrication and moisture in the nose are some of the causes of nosebleeds. In 90% of cases, epistaxis is benign.

How to avoid nosebleeds during the hot season?Juan Rosas Peña asserted that the best way to prevent bleeding is to maintain proper nasal hygiene. To achieve this, there are sprays enriched with seawater that moisturize the mucous membranes.
In addition, in the hot season it is recommended:
- Stay hydrated
- Wear light clothing
- Avoid direct exposure to the sun
- Maintain a good diet
Although it is a common practice, the reality is that putting a plug in the nose to try to stop the flow of blood and raise the head is not recommended.
To stop nosebleeds, MedlinePlus advises sitting and gently pinching the soft portion of your nose between your thumb and index finger for 10 minutes.
