Cuca Gamarra asks Feijóo to replace her as General Secretary of the PP
The general secretary of the People's Party (PP), Cuca Gamarra, has asked the party's leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to replace her at the party's national congress this weekend in Madrid, and the president has agreed.
In a press conference this Monday at the Popular Party headquarters in Génova, Gamarra revealed that she had asked Feijóo to leave the position of General Secretary because now "a different stage is coming," after defining herself as "a woman of the party" convinced that in politics "you have to be there to serve, not to be served by politics."
It was two days ago when she had this conversation with the president of the PP, and, according to sources within the party, he asked her to remain on the steering committee, so Gamarra will move to another position of trust with different responsibilities.
Cuca Gamarra, who after serving as spokesperson in Congress under Pablo Casado, was appointed general coordinator of the party in February 2022 until she joined Feijóo's team as general secretary at the extraordinary congress in April, recalled the work she has done over the past three years.
Therefore, he noted, the priority was to "achieve unity" within the PP and "regain leadership," both tasks he considers accomplished, and therefore believes it is necessary to open a new era.
He also stated that he agrees with Alberto Núñez Feijóo that the party's structure must continue to adapt to the challenges it faces, and now, ahead of its 21st National Congress, it is up to him to decide "who are the most suitable people and where."
He reiterated that he remains available to the PP for anything that might be useful, because in his opinion, "this isn't about egos" but "about Spain," and the PP is now approaching a "very important" congress, not so much for them as for the entire country.
