Ministry of Foreign Affairs evacuates 175 Mexicans from conflict zone in the Middle East

In response to the rising tensions in the Middle East, Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has successfully coordinated the evacuation of 175 Mexican citizens from the region. The Mexican government has reiterated its call for peace and dialogue to avoid further escalation.

In the face of the dangerous escalation of tensions in the Middle East, triggered by military actions between the United States and Iran, the Mexican government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), has acted swiftly to guarantee the safety of its citizens in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the safe departure of 175 Mexicans who were in high-risk areas.

This diplomatic and logistical operation, coordinated from Mexico City, was carried out through Mexican diplomatic missions in the region, which activated emergency protocols to contact and assist registered citizens.

Diplomatic Operation: Evacuation from 5 Embassies

The evacuation was managed through at least five Mexican embassies strategically located in the Middle East. These diplomatic missions became coordination centers to locate the Mexicans, offer them consular assistance, and facilitate their transfer to safer areas or their return to Mexico, as appropriate.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has maintained constant communication with the region's governments to ensure that exit corridors for Mexican citizens remain open and safe. The agency has placed its embassies in the region on alert to continue monitoring the situation and assist any Mexican national who still requires assistance.

Mexico's Position: A Call for Peace and De-escalation

In parallel with consular protection efforts, the Mexican government has taken a clear stance internationally. President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged the United Nations (UN) to mediate the conflict and has strongly called on all parties involved to opt for dialogue and peace, avoiding actions that could lead to a confrontation with unpredictable consequences.

"Mexico will always be a factor of peace," declared President Sheinbaum, underscoring the pacifist and multilateralist vocation of Mexican foreign policy.

This position is in line with the historic principles of Mexican diplomacy: non-intervention and peaceful dispute resolution.

The International Context: The Strait of Hormuz and Global Tension

One of the epicenters of the current crisis is the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which a significant portion of the world's oil transits. The threat of a possible closure of this waterway by Iran has generated enormous concern in global markets and has led the United States to urge powers like China to intervene to keep the route open.

In this complex geopolitical scenario, the Mexican government's priority has been clear: safeguarding the lives and safety of its citizens. The evacuation of the 175 Mexicans is a testament to the responsiveness of the Mexican Foreign Service in times of international crisis.
