New identity and electoral cards will be issued by the end of 2025.

Provided the Central Electoral Board's (JCE) work schedule progresses at its current pace, the process of renewing the voter ID card will begin gradually starting in October or November of this year.

This information was confirmed by the president of the institution's plenary session, Román Jáquez Liranzo , who warned that this is a preliminary date .

"The projection is that in October or November, which are preliminary dates, we would begin issuing the new document , remembering that it is for the birthday month... If it is in October, citizens whose birthday falls in that month will be summoned," he said.

To issue these documents, the agency will have 347 identification centers nationwide and internationally.

A gradual process

The process is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 , so by 2027 (the pre-election year), citizens must have an updated identity card (CI) or identity and electoral card (CIE).

"Once the process for the new ID card begins, both documents will coexist , the old and the new, but when the process is completed, which is projected for December 26 , the old document will no longer be able to circulate," he said.

The JCE has reported that this renewal will involve an approximate investment of 6 billion pesos , allocated both to the hiring of the responsible consortium and to the general logistics of the process.

The new document will be free and will have additional features tailored to today's technological needs. It is estimated that more than 9.4 million people will receive the new ID , including minors who reach the age of majority during the implementation period.

• The head of the institution confirmed that, according to projections, the public tender would be awarded by the end of this month or early July. Currently, three consortia of companies are participating as bidders in the process.
• Jáquez Liranzo explained that the technical committee appointed by the Central Electoral Board's Bidding Committee must submit a report in the coming weeks, "which will prepare the Bidding Committee to open Envelope B, which contains the financial offer" for the project.
