Santos Cerdán appeals his imprisonment in the Koldo case

Santos Cerdán appeals his imprisonment in the Koldo case

Santos Cerdán, former number three of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), has filed an appeal against his imprisonment without bail, ordered by the Supreme Court. The court alleges that he played a "specific role" in the Koldo plot and sees evidence that he received and distributed kickbacks from construction companies for irregular contract awards.

According to legal sources who spoke to EFE, Cerdán's defense team has appealed the ruling issued by Supreme Court Judge Leopoldo Puente, who last Monday ordered the former PSOE leader to be imprisoned, as requested by both the Prosecutor's Office and the prosecution.

Cerdán was admitted to Soto del Real prison (Madrid) last Monday, as the judge considered that he had committed crimes of membership in a criminal organization, bribery and influence peddling, and that there is a well-founded danger that the former number 3 of the PSOE could "hide, alter or destroy" evidence.
