Armed attack leaves three dead and a municipal commissioner injured in Zihuaquio

CHILPANCINGO, Gro. (apro).- Three people were killed and the municipal commissioner was wounded in an armed attack in the community of Zihuaquio, in the municipality of Coyuca de Catalán, in the Tierra Caliente region.
In addition, nine National Guard (GN) officers were injured, two of them seriously, in an ambush on a road toward the Zihuatanejo mountains, reported Undersecretary of Government Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros.
Yesterday afternoon, residents of Zihuaquio reported the invasion of armed men allegedly members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
This morning in Acapulco, Undersecretary Francisco Rodríguez confirmed the violent incidents. In the first case, three people died and the municipal commissioner was injured as a result of the armed attack in Zihuaquio.
In the same context, around 10 p.m., GN agents were ambushed by gunmen when they responded to a report about the presence of armed individuals in Vallecitos de Zaragoza, on the outskirts of the municipality of Zihuatanejo.
The military police were ambushed between the communities of Zumatlán and Las Lagunas in the mountains of that municipality.
Following the attack, the agents requested support from Army units and state corporations, who launched a search operation for the attackers.
The injured National Guard officers were taken to the IMSS-Bienestar "Bernardo Sepúlveda" General Hospital in Zihuatanejo.
Two officers were reported seriously injured. One suffered a punctured lung and other gunshot wounds to the head. The remaining officers suffered minor injuries.
The undersecretary stated that six Mixed Operations Bases (MOBs) were deployed in the area, comprising the State Police, Defense Forces, and the National Guard.
Sources in the region indicate that there is a rift in that area between cells of the criminal organizations La Familia Michoacana and the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
