A little over a year before the start of the next World Cup, where the United States, Canada and Mexico will host, a legal battle still continues involving the now-called Banorte Stadium, due to the fact that the owners of the boxes continue to be in a dispute against FIFA to have their ownership respected for the World Cup.

Each edition of the World Cup, FIFA is responsible for all the organization and logistics of this competition, so it asks multiple requirements from the cities that will host it, among others. One of the requirements for a stadium to host matches is that the rights to the boxes be transferred to FIFA. so that they can be rented only for the duration of the World Cup, taking away their guaranteed place from the owners of the boxes who on many occasions have purchased the right to use these spaces for up to 99 years.

Since last year, the owners of the Azteca Stadium's boxes have been fighting to have their seats respected for the matches that will be held at the capital's stadium for the next World Cup, however, FIFA has not given an answer as to what will happen to these owners, They have already begun a legal battle against the International Football Federation and Associates.

Banorte Stadium sued before PROFECO

This Tuesday, Roberto Ruano , general secretary of the Mexican Association of Box and Stall Owners, spoke to the media after holding a meeting with the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO). “One of our members came to file a complaint with PROFECO to learn the Reasons why we wouldn't be able to use our boxes during the 2026 World Cup "Or, if necessary, use them. We're here to support them, and that's their right, because we're still in negotiations with the stadium."

So far, the only one who has spoken out on this issue is the Banorte Stadium, formerly called the Azteca Stadium, who on their social networks exposed a user of X, who was making "Fake News" regarding the issue of the boxes, and also mentioned in the same publication that The issue of the boxes with FIFA was at an advanced stage and was ready to be resolved.

Next May will be vital for the continuation of this case in PROFECO, since The Attorney General's Office summoned the Azteca Stadium box holders and the property owners to a hearing. to continue with the case and seek a resolution to the issue.
