Mexican Isaac del Toro won the Tour of Austria. For four days, he worked with intelligence and the power that has caused a sensation, but above all, with the unwavering protection of his Praetorian Guard, the pinnacle of cycling: UAE Team Emirates. In the fifth and final stage of this tour, he didn't need to go wild because the lead he'd built up in the preceding days was already difficult for his rivals to overcome. The Baja California native took advantage of his position as leader and didn't have to demand the ultimate sacrifice.

He emerged from the Giro d'Italia like an epiphany on wheels. In that race, he was nothing more than a young gregarious rider hoping to make a name for himself in his second appearance at a major European event—he'd already experienced what it means to work his butt off for weeks at the Vuelta a España—but circumstances paved the way for him to prove he's a contender for the lead. With obvious, but undisclosed, difficulties, he had to work with his teammates to climb the ranks and become the leader who finished as runner-up in one of cycling's historic circuits. At times during the Corsa Rosa, he seemed like a melancholic cyclist struggling in complete solitude. And so, despite everything, he prevailed as the leader for 11 days.

This time in Austria, Del Toro rode with the status of a boss , with the team of domestiques supporting him—that is, at the service of their leader. The role of the domestique is to use his energy to preserve that of the team leader, with the goal of ensuring that he reaches the crucial moment of the race with the maximum possible reserves , wrote former cyclist Charly Wegelius in his biography as a pedal-man.

That's how 21-year-old Del Toro finished 19th in this stage, the first they managed to snatch from the UAE, but no one could dethrone him from the lead in the overall standings. With three stage wins and impeccable support from his teammates, the Ensenada native finished the race 29 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Irishman Ryan Archie, who came in second, and 47 seconds ahead of his comrade-in-arms, Polish rider Rafal Majka, who came in third.

The final stage was won by Luxembourger Bob Jungels of INEOS, who finally snatched a victory away from the UAE, which he had dominated for the previous four days. He did so with a delirious display of power, with the example of a breakaway that failed to break under pressure from the front of the pack throughout the lap.

The Luxembourger burst forth like a comet whose wake, the rest of the peloton, was falling further and further behind. The cyclist demonstrated tremendous ability for a Tour that was five days old and yesterday demanded the stamina and extreme concentration that could remain after several grueling days. The 144-kilometer stage, which started and ended in the medieval town of Feldkirch, included climbs and descents over three mountain passes, one category two and one category one, demanding the greatest effort required by one of the most demanding sports.

The breakaway left Italian Luca Vergallito on the road, only able to keep up with Jungels's devilish pace for a few kilometers. The Luxembourger was riding alone, as if in another race where his only rivals were the road and his body, so aching from so many days. Suddenly, he was two and a half minutes ahead of the peloton, and later, it was up to three.

Vergallito soon burst and saw the fugitive slip away forever, with no chance of getting back on his wheel.

Del Toro was riding in a strategic and tactical cycling operation, well protected by his UAE soldiers who guarded the position with the certainty that it would be difficult for them to take away the Mexican's overall lead and the team's prominence.

They didn't seem desperate to win the final stage, but rather to maintain what they had achieved in the previous days. The young rider from Ensenada didn't need to punish himself further. Why would he? The three victories and the collective effort allowed him to save himself for the finale of the Tour of Austria. Isaac del Toro is no longer a young contender but a protagonist.

With Olympic athletes Matías Grande, Alegna González, and Abraham Ancer as protagonists, Mexican sport celebrated on a Sunday.

In Madrid, Grande won the gold medal at the Archery World Cup; it was her third medal of the 2025 World Archery circuit and secured her spot in the Grand Final in China in October.

The Celaya native defeated Frenchman Baptiste Addis, ninth in the rankings and favorite to win the title, 6-0.

Matías, 21, gave his opponent no chance and won the first three sets with a perfect run. This gave him revenge against Addis, who eliminated him in the round of 16 of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, Chihuahuan race walker Alegna González added a gold medal to her long list of international achievements after winning the 35-kilometer race walk at the Dublin Race Walking Summer Challenger, where she set a Mexican record with a time of 2:44.28 hours.

The selected athlete led a historic 1-2 finish in the competition alongside Ximena Serrano, who finished 17 seconds behind to take second place and break the tricolor record (2:50.44 hours). The race walkers met the time required by World Athletics to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Mexican Abraham Ancer fell three strokes short of winning the 54th Andalusian Golf Championship, held at the Real Club Valderrama and won by American Taylor Gooch.

The Olympic team for Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 recovered from the first round to climb to third place. Abraham last appeared in the top 10 in Singapore last March.

Just as the painanis, Aztec messenger runners, traveled dozens of kilometers to communicate with the people of Tenochtitlan, more than 30,000 athletes devoured the Mexico City Half Marathon route in a special edition that ran from the Caballito Tower to the Angel of Independence.

Martín Magengo's lightning-fast pace set the pace for the competition. The Ugandan not only dominated the course with a time of 1:03.22, but also broke the record set by Juan Luis Barrios more than a decade ago (1:03.55).

Kenyan Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo (1:03.28h) finished second, and his compatriot Leonard Kip-koech Langat (1:05.49) third. Jorge Luis Cruz was the best-placed Mexican, crossing the finish line in fourth place.

It was a very close race; I tried to keep up with the Kenyans, but their speed was impressive. Although I didn't finish in the top three, I'm motivated by the challenges ahead; one of them being the Valencia Marathon , said Cruz, who for the second year was one of the few runners who managed to compete against the Africans.

On this occasion, the large contingent wore a green shirt whose symbolism represents the strength of the quetzal, the mythical bird that gives life to this edition of the Half Marathon and which was also reflected in the medals.

Achieving it with fear is achieving it twice , Princesses don't sweat, we shine , read some of the banners with which dozens of relatives supported their runners.

Juan Luis Barrios finished in sixth place and took the opportunity to present his first book: Olympic Dream , which he wrote together with Jorge Cuevas.

I'm very excited to run with the children of my former competition partners. The main goal wasn't to finish in the top 10, but rather to have elite Mexican runners on the course , he said.

Kenya's Marion Kibor dominated the women's category with a time of 1:12.48, also setting a competition record. Her compatriot Dayzy Rutto crossed the finish line (1:15:36), followed by Mexico's Mirrell García Barrios (1:19.19).

Among the finalists were Rarámuri runners, who, dressed in their traditional attire, became the most sought-after for photographs and selfies.

Behind them, thousands of participants exhausted after running for two, three, and even four hours.

The important thing was to cross the finish line and not collapse along the way. Halfway through the race, my legs were shaking, but my willpower was stronger , shared Edda, 56.

The winners received a check for 50,000 pesos, second place received 35,000 pesos, and third place received 20,000 pesos.

In the wheelchair category, Jenny Hernández (1:18.02), Brenda Osnaya (1:23.02), and Leticia Sánchez (1:29.49) took first place. In the men's category, Gonzalo Valdovinos (57.42), José Frías (1:02.41), and Marco Caballero (1:02.50) took first place.

The medal presentation was led by Javier Peralta, head of Indeporte; Héctor García Antonio, technical coordinator of Physical Culture and Sports at the Mexican Social Security Institute; and representatives of the Half Marathon sponsors.

Wimbledon. World number one Jannik Sinner claimed his first Wimbledon crown by taking revenge over Carlos Alcaraz (2), who defeated him in the recent Roland Garros final. The Italian claimed his fourth Grand Slam title by defeating (4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4) the Spaniard, who was seeking a third title.

In this new tennis classic, Alcaraz, who has won eight of the 13 meetings between the two and the last five, was unable to overcome the Italian. Sinner recovered after losing the first set.

“Losing a Grand Slam final is always tough and difficult to process, but we've learned to accept things as they come and always find the positives. There were different moments in the match. Some were good, when I felt perfect, and others when I didn't know what to do,” said the Murcia native.

In the audience for Sinner's triumph were William, the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, along with his wife Catherine, and two of the couple's three children, George and Charlotte, as well as the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and several actors.

It's been an incredible tournament, thank you for being the player you are. It's very difficult to play against you , the Italian told his opponent.

First of all, I have to congratulate Jannik. It's a well-deserved trophy. He played incredible tennis, and I'm very happy to have built a very good relationship with him off the court.

The Spaniard lost his first Grand Slam final after winning the previous five: twice at Wimbledon, the same number at Roland Garros, and once at the US Open. Sinner won his fourth major by winning the Australian Open twice and the US Open once.

Alcaraz was aiming to become the fifth tennis player to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles, following Sweden's Bjorn Borg, American Pete Sampras, Swiss Roger Federer, and Serbia's Novak Djokovic.

"I'm going to keep this one! You already have two!" Sinner said, smiling at the awards ceremony.

In doubles, Russian Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens were crowned champions after beating Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Su-Wei Hsieh from Taiwan.
