With Olympic athletes Matías Grande, Alegna González, and Abraham Ancer as protagonists, Mexican sport celebrated on a Sunday.

In Madrid, Grande won the gold medal at the Archery World Cup; it was her third medal of the 2025 World Archery circuit and secured her spot in the Grand Final in China in October.

The Celaya native defeated Frenchman Baptiste Addis, ninth in the rankings and favorite to win the title, 6-0.

Matías, 21, gave his opponent no chance and won the first three sets with a perfect run. He thus earned revenge against Addis, who eliminated him in the round of 16 of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, Chihuahuan race walker Alegna González added a gold medal to her long list of international achievements after winning the 35-kilometer race walk at the Dublin Race Walking Summer Challenger, where she set a Mexican record with a time of 2:44.28 hours.

The selected athlete led a historic 1-2 finish in the competition alongside Ximena Serrano, who finished 17 seconds behind to take second place and break the tricolor record (2:50.44 hours). The race walkers met the time required by World Athletics to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Mexican Abraham Ancer fell three strokes short of winning the 54th Andalusian Golf Championship, held at the Real Club Valderrama and won by American Taylor Gooch.

The Olympic team for Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 recovered from the first round to climb to third place. Abraham last appeared in the top 10 in Singapore last March.

Just as the painanis, Aztec messenger runners, traveled dozens of kilometers to communicate with the people of Tenochtitlan, more than 30,000 athletes devoured the Mexico City Half Marathon route in a special edition that ran from the Caballito Tower to the Angel of Independence.

Martín Magengo's lightning-fast pace set the pace for the competition. The Ugandan not only dominated the course with a time of 1:03.22, but also broke the record set by Juan Luis Barrios more than a decade ago (1:03.55).

Kenyan Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo (1:03.28h) finished second, and his compatriot Leonard Kip-koech Langat (1:05.49) third. Jorge Luis Cruz was the best-placed Mexican, crossing the finish line in fourth place.

It was a very close race; I tried to keep up with the Kenyans, but their speed was impressive. Although I didn't finish in the top three, I'm motivated by the challenges ahead; one of them being the Valencia Marathon , said Cruz, who for the second year was one of the few runners who managed to compete against the Africans.

On this occasion, the large contingent wore a green shirt whose symbolism represents the strength of the quetzal, the mythical bird that gives life to this edition of the Half Marathon and which was also reflected in the medals.

Among the finalists were Rarámuri runners, who, dressed in their traditional attire, became the most sought-after for photographs and selfies.

Behind them, thousands of participants exhausted after running for two, three, and even four hours.

The winners received a check for 50,000 pesos, second place received 35,000 pesos, and third place received 20,000 pesos.

The medal presentation was led by Javier Peralta, head of Indeporte; Héctor García Antonio, technical coordinator of Physical Culture and Sports at the Mexican Social Security Institute; and representatives of the Half Marathon sponsors.

Wimbledon. World number one Jannik Sinner claimed his first Wimbledon crown by taking revenge over Carlos Alcaraz (2), who defeated him in the recent Roland Garros final. The Italian claimed his fourth Grand Slam title by defeating (4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4) the Spaniard, who was seeking a third title.

In this new tennis classic, Alcaraz, who has won eight of the 13 meetings between the two and the last five, was unable to overcome the Italian. Sinner recovered after losing the first set.

“Losing a Grand Slam final is always tough and difficult to process, but we've learned to accept things as they come and always find the positives. There were different moments in the match. Some were good, when I felt perfect, and others when I didn't know what to do,” said the Murcia native.

In the audience for Sinner's triumph were William, the Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, along with his wife Catherine, and two of the couple's three children, George and Charlotte, as well as the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and several actors.

Champion Pachuca continued its winning streak in its debut in the 2025 Apertura tournament of the Liga MX Femenil after thrashing Puebla 5-1 in the matchday one match, played yesterday at Cuauhtémoc Stadium.

With this resounding victory, the Tuzas moved into first place in the overall standings with three points. Their rivals remained in 17th place, with no points.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 18th minute, when Myra Delgadillo took advantage of a through ball from Natalia Mauleón to unleash a powerful right-footed shot to make it 1-0.

Just one minute later (19), Pachuca extended its lead, after Nina Nicosia connected with a service from Charlyn Corral to make it 2-0.

From that moment on, the Tuzas began a cascade of goals. Andrea Pereira made it 3-0 in the 30th minute with a corner kick, and Corral made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute with a left-footed shot in the box.

Puebla scored in the 41st minute thanks to a shot from outside the area by Luisa de Alba.

In the final stretch, in the 86th minute, the Tuzas delivered their fifth blow, after Pereira executed an exceptional free kick to seal the rout.
