Mexican National Team: Javier Aguirre selects his first 60 players for the 2025 Gold Cup

The Mexican National Team , led by Javier “Vasco” Aguirre , has revealed its preliminary list of 60 players for the 2025 Gold Cup , marked by the inclusion of experienced figures, young promises and the uncertainty regarding the availability of certain players due to the coincidence of dates with the Club World Cup .
Although América could qualify for the World Cup if it defeats LAFC on May 31, Aguirre has included seven Águilas players on the preliminary roster: Kevin Álvarez; Israel Reyes; Ramón Juárez; Luis Ángel Malagón; Alan Cervantes; Erick Sánchez; and Henry Martín .
However, if América secures its participation in the international tournament, these players would be ineligible to compete in the Gold Cup , since FIFA has established that the club tournament takes priority over national team competitions during the summer.

The situation is further complicated by the players from Pachuca and Monterrey , clubs already qualified for the Club World Cup .
Players such as Elías Montiel; Carlos Moreno; Gerardo Arteaga; Víctor Guzmán; Fidel Ambríz; Jordi Cortizo; José Ramírez; Germán Berterame; and Bryan González will not be eligible for the Gold Cup due to their commitments to their respective teams in the international tournament.
Among the surprises on the pre-list are young talents such as Diego Campillo and Denzell García of FC Juárez; Hugo Camberos of Chivas; Stephano Carrillo of Feyenoord ; Gil Mora of Tijuana; and Mateo Chávez of AZ Alkmaar.
These players, all under 23 years old , represent Aguirre 's commitment to renewing and strengthening the future of Mexican soccer.
In addition, the coach has considered bringing back players such as Guillermo Ochoa , currently with AVS in Portugal; Hirving “Chucky” Lozano , who plays for San Diego FC in the MLS; and Henry Martín.
Ochoa could be a viable option if Malagón is prevented from participating due to the Club World Cup , while Lozano has expressed his desire to return to the national team after overcoming an injury and adapting to his new team in MLS .
The pre-shortlist also includes other notable players such as Fulham's Raúl Jiménez; Milan's Santiago Giménez ; Al-Qadsiah's Julián Quiñones; Lokomotiv Moscow's César Montes; Genoa's Johan Vásquez; West Ham's Edson Álvarez; Dinamo Moscow's Luis Chávez; and AEK Athens' Orbelín Pineda .
These players bring international experience and build a solid foundation for the regional tournament.
The 2025 Gold Cup will be played from June 14 to July 6 , coinciding with the Club World Cup , which poses an additional challenge for Aguirre when defining the final list of 23 players.
The coach will have to balance experience and youth, taking into account possible absences due to club commitments, to form a competitive team that can aspire to the regional title.
