NFL: Aaron Rodgers says he's retiring after this season

NFL: Aaron Rodgers says he's retiring after this season

Aaron Rodgers , the new quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers , said Tuesday that at 41 years old , the 2025 NFL season, which begins next September, will be the last of his career.

"I'm pretty confident that's how it's going to be. That's why I signed a one-year deal. What better place to end up than with one of the NFL 's greatest franchises with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leaders and great players?" the quarterback said on the Pat McAfee Show.

Rodgers, who was a Super Bowl XLV champion with the Green Bay Packers for 20 years, kept his continued presence in the league on hold until June 6, when he signed a one-year contract with the Steelers, to play what he said would be his final season.

"The Steelers didn't need to add more years or anything. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the end. The idea was to end with a lot of love , fun, and peace. During my career, I played 20 years, so it's been a very long career, and I've enjoyed it," he said.

Aaron Rodgers is considered one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history .

He played 18 seasons (2005-2022) with the Green Bay Packers, the team that selected him in the first round of the 2005 Draft, and which he led to winning Super Bowl XLV, in which he was named Most Valuable Player.

In 2023, he paralyzed the NFL market with his signing with the New York Jets , a team he joined with high expectations, but in his presentation in Week 1 of that campaign, he tore his Achilles tendon and missed the rest of the season.

His recovery for 2024 maintained optimism that the Jets would be a playoff contender, but it all ended in a losing season of five wins and 12 losses.

This Tuesday, Rodgers confirmed that his Pittsburgh adventure will be the last of his career, during which he has completed 5,369 passes for 62,952 yards and 503 touchdowns, while also conceding 116 interceptions. He has rushed for 3,573 yards and 35 touchdowns.

In addition to his Super Bowl win with the Packers, he has been named MVP four times , has 10 Pro Bowl selections, and four All-Pro honors.
