Third Division: Deportivo Venados takes a 3-1 lead over Alebrijes Teotihuacán

MEXICO CITY.— Deportiva Venados took a commanding victory in the first leg of the first phase of the reserve team playoffs of the Professional Third Division League.

The Yucatecan team , super leader among all the affiliates, and leader of Group One, defeated the Alebrijes Teotihuacán, affiliate of the Alebrijes de Oaxaca, 3-1 in a match held this Saturday, May 3, at the Pascual Recreation Center in Mexico City.

Diego Morales Uscanga's team needed to score early in this match to avoid jeopardizing their position in the first leg, and they attacked early.

His attacking duo of José Mendoza and Jonathan Ciprián was crucial, as they had been throughout the tournament, and Mendoza made it 1-0 in the 23rd minute, while Ciprián added the second in the 31st.

After the restart, Alebrijes closed the gap to 2-1, but the Venados regained control and increased their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Aries Gutiérrez. They could have scored at least two more goals if not for the interventions of the Alebrije goalkeeper.

The second leg will be played on Saturday, May 10, at the "Alonso Diego Molina" Stadium in Tamanché, where Deportiva hasn't lost throughout the tournament. Its ranking for the finals gives it an advantage in the event of a tie.
