The spectacular Christmas market in the heart of the Black Forest, set up under a viaduct

Christmas 2025 is just around the corner, and many dream of traveling from Spain to some of Europe's Christmas heartland destinations, such as the villages of the Alsace region in France, or some of the continental capitals that host the most famous and unique Christmas markets , like Vienna or Prague. However, the most special Christmas market in all of Europe isn't found in any of the major European cities, but rather in the westernmost part of Germany, specifically in the heart of the Black Forest.
If that weren't enough, the impressive Ravenna Gorge Christmas market is set up in a rather unusual location. Instead of being in one of the picturesque towns scattered throughout the mountain range, it's situated right beneath a viaduct that spans the region and overcomes the enormous vertical drop of the Ravenna Gorge. All of this makes this German Christmas market the perfect place to experience the most magical time of the year in a truly unique way.
The Christmas market in Ravenna Gorge, GermanyThe Ravenna Gorge is nestled in the heart of Hell Valley (Höllental), just a few kilometers from the city of Freiburg, and the imposing Ravenna Bridge rises above it, reaching a height of 58 meters and spanning 225 meters. During the Christmas season, an extraordinary market with wooden stalls is set up at the foot of the railway viaduct, where the Christmas spirit can be experienced like nowhere else on the continent.
The magical location of this market draws more and more visitors each year , whether to buy some of the typical products sold at the stalls or simply to enjoy a scene straight out of a movie. It is certainly a very special place, although there are a few things to keep in mind before visiting.
The first thing to know before visiting the Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market is that it's only open from Friday to Sunday during Advent. Therefore, in 2025, it will be open from November 28th to 30th and from December 5th to 7th, 12th to 14th, and 19th to 21st. Opening hours are from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, although it closes an hour earlier every Sunday, at 8:00 PM.
You also need to buy a ticket to visit, which costs €6.50 or €8.50 depending on the time of day. You can get there by taking a train and a shuttle bus or by renting a car from the towns of Hinterzarten and Titisee, the nearest villages (three and four kilometers away, respectively).
