Five years after online match: Diederik Jekel gets married

Diederik Jekel (39) has said 'yes'. The science journalist and television personality has tied the knot with his great love Eline, exactly five years after they met online. On Instagram, his brand-new wife shares a romantic account of the special day and an emotional declaration of love to her husband.
"Over the past five years you have made my world so much bigger"
'On Monday the 9th, Diederik declared his love to me again on his Instagram', she writes with a series of photos of the wedding. 'That day (and legally the day after) we got married with our dear family and best friends'. The ceremony was led by none other than Jochem van Gelder, who acted as master of ceremonies.

The day did not go entirely smoothly. During the emotional speeches of the parents and witnesses of Diederik and Eline, son Matthias (1) decided to cheerfully name all the colours of the bridal bouquet out loud.
After the official yes, they toasted to love and the newlyweds cut the beautiful cake that a friend had baked especially for them. Then they enjoyed a delicious seasonal dinner with their guests, and as the icing on the (wedding) cake: ice cream from the ice cream cart.
Eline ends her message with a eulogy to her new husband. 'The past five years you have made my world so much bigger. Not with exciting adventures or far-flung journeys, but by showing me every day how big it is here, at home - together with you.' Eline is still very much in love with her husband and admires him as the father of their son. 'I will always stand by your side as your wife and as your cheerleader.'
