Freek Rikkerink, from the duo Suzan & Freek, has started on "life-extending medication". He and his partner Suzan Stortelder announced this on Instagram on Wednesday morning. The medication is intended to "slow down" the cancer that Rikkerink is suffering from "as much as possible".

Rikkerink has been feeling "physically much better since then". "After months, finally freed from the cough (for which he 'quickly' went to the doctor) and gained a few healthy kilos", the couple writes. In a while, the singer will be examined in the hospital to check whether the medication is working. "If that is the case, the situation can hopefully remain stable for a longer period of time." The couple emphasizes that "fortunately" it is not about chemotherapy.

Suzan & Freek shared last week that Rikkerink has metastatic lung cancer and will not get better. The duo then stopped all their activities.

The couple also announced that they were expecting a child. "The pregnancy is going well, so we are focusing on that as much as possible, our biggest dream!" The musicians also wrote: "It all still feels so unreal and scary, because our image of 'growing old together' is suddenly not a given. Nevertheless, we have decided to put our shoulders to the wheel together and fight for it, we are going to do everything we can to be the exception!"
