Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit has met the famous Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. The two spoke on stage at a Norwegian literature festival in Lillehammer.

Murakami's work has received international praise and the Norwegian Crown Princess is also a fan, she admitted in the interview. "I read your work when I was very young, it has followed me for a large part of my life," Mette-Marit said, according to the newspaper VG. "Now I'm getting nervous," the writer responded. The 76-year-old Murakami considers it "a miracle" that he is a writer. Mette-Marit responded that she also sees her life as a miracle, which caused the audience to burst out laughing.

According to broadcaster NRK, the Norwegian Crown Princess found it "a wonderful conversation". "It was a great honor that the festival asked me to interview Murakami".

Murakami has been active as a writer for almost fifty years. He is known for books such as Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore. His most recent work The City and its Unsteady Walls was published last year.
