Freeze rent? There is no need for that at all

The government wants to freeze social rents in the coming years to give tenants some breathing space. That plan has been criticized a lot recently. Housing corporations call it disastrous for housing construction and even went to court. Critics from the other camp say that the corporations still have enough equity to invest in new construction. And then there is also the question of whether a rent freeze is really necessary for tenants. The Nibud does not think so, says housing market editor Bas Knoop.
