The death toll in the US state of Texas from flooding continues to rise. At least fifty people have died, including several children. Hundreds are also injured and many people are still missing. Most of the victims died in Kerr County, near San Antonio.
Nearly thirty girls who were at a Christian summer camp are still being sought. The camp is located along the Guadalupe River. In the night from Thursday to Friday, the water in this river rose by eight meters in three quarters of an hour. According to the sheriff, there were 750 children staying at the camp.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott visited the camp and wrote on X Saturday night (local time) that there was devastation "on a scale I have never seen in a natural disaster." He said the water was up to the roof of the huts. "We will not stop until we find every girl in those huts," the governor said.
Images show extensive damage, with homes and streets destroyed, vehicles hanging from trees, and in some photos only the roofs of a few houses are visible
