Three defeats and a draw for Dutch clubs in European competition

Three defeats and a draw for Dutch clubs in European competition

Four matches into this season's Europa League competition and two of the three Dutch clubs – Feyenoord and Utrecht – are languishing in 29th and 32nd place respectively, while Go Ahead Eagles are 21st – and the only club on target for the play-offs.

On Thursday night Feyenoord lost 2-0 to VfB Stuttgart, the current number four in the Bundesliga.

Robin van Persie's team were better for much of the game but unable to score, and Stuttgart put two away late in the game for the points. Feyenoord have just three points from four games so far.

FC Utrecht won their first point in the competition stage of the tournament, drawing 1-1 against FC Porto.

But Go Ahead Eagles, with two surprise wins so far, were unable to make it three in a row and lost 2-0 away to RB Salzburg. The three points are Salzburg's first in the competition so far.

In the Conference League , AZ Alkmaar lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace, their second defeat of the competition. AZ are currently in 27th place in the league after three games.

Earlier this week both Ajax and PSV Eindhoven lost their Champions League ties.
