1000 artists on one stage. The Silesian Philharmonic will celebrate its 80th anniversary

The Great Jubilee Gala of the 80th Anniversary of the Silesian Philharmonic will begin at 6 p.m. with a concert by the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. They will perform works by Wojciech Kilar enriched with industrial sounds and multimedia shows.

You will be able to hear, among others, the most famous film themes, including those from Pan Tadeusz, Ziemia obiecana, Trędowata, Smuga cienia, as well as from Salt of the Black Earth.

Energetic Orava will also be performed, inspired by folk music - highlander rhythms and Podhale dances. In turn, Wojciech Kilar's Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by pianist Piotr Sałajczyk - also accompanied by the Silesian Chamber Orchestra.

The concert will be complemented by Sinfonia industrialna by Adam Wesołowski - a piece composed for the 150th anniversary of Chorzów, in which the sounds of instruments are combined with the sounds of industrial machines.

The evening will culminate in a concert by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yaroslav Shemet, which, together with the Silesian Philharmonic Choir and combined choirs from the Silesian Voivodeship, will perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 in E flat major. This work will be performed by 1,000 artists for the first time in Poland.

Founded in 1945, the Silesian Philharmonic has worked very intensively to popularize music since its inception, organizing many concerts, including those outside its headquarters. The first artistic director of the philharmonic was Anatol Zarubin.

In 2011, the philharmonic was named after Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, a composer of contemporary classical music from Silesia.
