Thanks to the significant support of the Marshal's Office in Rzeszów, the Vascular Surgery Department of the Przemyśl hospital has gained a modern operating room with an angiograph, a hybrid operating table and high-class equipment. The total value of this investment is PLN 9.44 million, of which the subsidy from the provincial government unit amounted to PLN 9.114 million. The hospital covered the missing part of the amount from its own funds. The contractor of this task, highly anticipated by the staff of the department, was Synektik SA. The room underwent, first of all, a thorough modernization, which made it possible to obtain more space. It also gained excellent equipment that will be useful to patients. This is an angiograph, operating table, contrast injector, anesthesia column, surgical column and operating lamps. This allowed to increase the safety of patients and the operating team, as well as improve the comfort of work of the latter. The new angiograph, essential for performing intravascular procedures, of which a great many are performed in the Przemyśl hospital, enables the performance of stent graft implantation procedures and comprehensive treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysms. The device, which has been added to the equipment of the room, uses X-ray radiation, but at a much lower dose than the standard one.
– Exposure to radiation has been reduced by 50 to even 70 percent – emphasized the head of the Vascular Surgery Department, Dr. Piotr Stabiszewski.
Another advantage of the new equipment in the room, which he mentions, is the software for aortic aneurysm surgery with special markers, where the CT image can be superimposed on the angiography image. This also translates into a reduction in the radiation dose and the amount of contrast administered to the patient.
Real benefits for the patient and staffThe opening of the modern hybrid hospital ward was attended by representatives of the provincial authorities – Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul and Deputy Marshal Piotr Pilch, as well as local authorities – City Secretary Daniel Stecura and Przemyśl City Councilor Maciej Kamiński, Director of the Podkarpackie Provincial Psychiatric Hospital in Żurawica, as well as a large representation of the staff. The facility was blessed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Przemyśl, Adam Szal. All those who arrived at the event were welcomed by the Director of the Hospital in Przemyśl, Barbara Stawarz, who did not hide her satisfaction and contentment with the implementation of another investment.
– The Vascular Surgery Department very often sees patients in a state of direct threat to their health and life. It enjoys the recognition of patients not only from the immediate vicinity, but also from the entire province and even distant regions of Poland. Our specialists are constantly undergoing training and successfully undertake new, difficult procedures – she emphasized, praising the commitment of the staff.
It is worth adding that just a few days ago, on June 16, a groundbreaking, first-in-Poland WRAPSODY (modern stent) implantation procedure was performed in the newly opened room in a patient who could no longer effectively receive dialysis due to advanced venous stenosis. This is a new quality in the treatment of chronic peripheral and central venous stenosis.
