A mural with the patron decorated the facade of the school in Olszany [GALLERY]

The landscape of the town of Olszany in the Krasiczyn commune has been enriched by a large-bar mural depicting the noble patron of the local Primary School in Olszany – John Paul II. The building of the institution was decorated by the talented author of such works, Weronika Nalepa. The ceremonial unveiling and dedication of the mural took place on Monday, June 9.

The Primary School in Olszany belongs to the Family of Schools named after John Paul II. Such a patron is an obligation, therefore the mission and vision of education implemented in the institution include the values he proclaimed: love, solidarity, respect for others and peace. This year, the school management decided to honor the memory of the patron in a unique way by decorating one of the walls of the building with his image. On the initiative of the principal of the Primary School in Olszany Barbara Nawojska-Synus and with the support of the Parents' Council, the goal was achieved. The mural was made by Weronika Nalepa from the Orły commune, who has already created similar works in schools in other parts of our region, and the institution covered the cost of its execution from its own budget.

- This way of honoring John Paul II came to my mind some time ago. This mural is a kind of monument that can be admired by students on their way to school, as well as those passing by. It is not only a decoration of the building, but above all a symbol of our identity, memory and gratitude. We want its presence to inspire students, teachers and all visitors to our school to reflect and act in accordance with what John Paul II taught - said the director of the school in Olszany, B. Nawojska-Synus.

Finally, she wished everyone gathered that the figure of John Paul II would be a source of strength and courage for them in their daily lives. She also expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the creation of the mural and supported the project with their hearts and work.

Close in life, but also after death

On the occasion of the dedication of the mural, invited guests were received at the school, including: the starosta of the Przemyśl district Bożena Ryczan, the mayor of the Krasiczyn commune Krzysztof Dobrowolski, representatives of the Krasiczyn Commune Council and the clergy.

Starosta B. Ryczan, addressing the youth gathered in the gym, emphasized that belonging to the John Paul II Schools Network is a great honor and certainly leaves a mark on the hearts of students and their families.

– The Holy Father was very demanding, also towards himself, and we should be too – she said.

She also quoted the words of John Paul II, which reads: "If you want to find the source, you have to go against the current", emphasizing the need for work and effort in searching for deeper truth, and thanked the teachers and school management for trying to lead the youth on the path of truth and faith.

In turn, the mayor of the Krasiczyn commune, K. Dobrowolski, added that John Paul II is a noble patron not only of the local school, but also of the entire local community, who was an exceptional man, close to everyone during his lifetime, but also after his death.

The event was graced by an artistic performance by younger and older members of the school community, and culminated in the unveiling and blessing of the John Paul II mural, along with the corresponding quote "You are the future of the world", decorating the building's façade. The ceremony also included "Barka" - the Pope's beloved oasis song, which was sung together by all the participants of the ceremony.
