Trade unionists point out, citing the Central Statistical Office, that 62% of men and 46% of women in Poland are overweight. This translates to one in five Poles being obese, and 52% of the population struggles with excess weight.

The Alternative trade union is demanding a systemic response. "We want employees to eat healthily."

"This situation calls for a systemic response. Therefore, we are calling for the introduction of free, high-quality meals financed from the state budget for all public and local government employees," emphasizes Piotr Szumlewicz, chairman of the Trade Union Alternative.

We want employees to eat healthily, so every catering supplier would be obliged to follow the recommendations regarding the content of micro and macro nutrients, outlined by certified dieticians

- adds the head of ZA.

He argues that, according to numerous studies, regular and healthy eating has a positive impact on well-being and professional performance. Employees who eat a proper diet are less likely to take sick leave, which is beneficial.

also for employers , so he sees benefits for both sides in introducing such a solution.
Will free and healthy meals increase the attractiveness of working in the public sector?

That's not all. The Alternative trade union calls this proposal part of a broader plan to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of public sector jobs.

"In recent years, we have observed a disturbing phenomenon of experienced employees leaving state institutions, resulting in a growing number of vacancies. Currently, one-third of public offices are unable to fulfill their duties due to vacancies, which translates into a decline in the quality of services provided to citizens, " notes Piotr Szumlewicz. "This direction of change has serious consequences for the functioning of the state and the well-being of society."

Trade unionists therefore expect the government to take decisive steps to stop these negative trends and to truly improve the situation of public sector and local government employees.

45 minutes break instead of 15 and it's included in the working time

They also call for all public sector employees to be given a lunch break of at least 45 minutes and included in their working time .

Currently, with an eight-hour working day, the minimum break is only 15 minutes, which is too short to eat a meal in peace

- Piotr Szumlewicz points out.

The Trade Union Alternative believes that within a few years similar solutions should be implemented throughout the economy .

- The dissemination of high-quality meals would certainly contribute to improving the quality of employees' health, increasing work efficiency and minimizing stress - says the chairman.
