On Saturday, July 5th, officers recovered a Daf truck driven by a 38-year-old Ukrainian citizen. During a detailed search, they determined that the vehicle was listed as a wanted vehicle and had been reported stolen in Austria last year. A few hours later, at the same border crossing, a 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen, transporting automotive components in the Mercedes's cargo area, checked in to leave Poland.
– As a result of the checks, the VIN of the car from which the parts came was determined. It turned out that they were assigned to a Citroën stolen in Italy in 2021. The components were estimated to be worth 28,000 PLN.
– said Border Guard Lieutenant Piotr Zakielarz, press spokesman for the Commander of the Bieszczady Border Guard Unit.
Two days later, a 34-year-old Ukrainian citizen attempted to export eight bicycles to his home country. After checking the bikes' identification numbers, officers determined that three of them (two Cube and one KTM) had been lost in Germany, with an estimated value of 47,000 PLN.
According to the BiOSG press service, the items were seized and the foreigners were questioned as witnesses. It also reported that since the beginning of this year, officers of the Bieszczady Border Guard Branch, independently and in cooperation with other services, have recovered over 90 vehicles stolen from crime, as well as 106 car parts and 19 bicycles. The total estimated value of the recovered items exceeds 10 million złoty.
