Honorary donors donated half a ton of sweets

The 25th anniversary campaign "Blood-Chocolate" conducted this year by members of the PCK Honorary Blood Donors Club "Płomyk", operating at the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Przemyśl, allowed for the collection of 130 bars of chocolate. All the sweets went to children. "Płomykowcy" donated over half a ton of chocolate over all these years.
The members of "Płomyk" have been participating in such an action every spring since 2001. They systematically collected chocolates received after donating blood. After setting a date for a meeting with the management of various care and educational facilities in Przemyśl and the district, they held talks with children and presented the equipment they use when extinguishing fires. The staff of the facilities and often the management also participated in these meetings. Over the course of 25 years, they donated 5,330 chocolates, which is 533 kg of sweets.
Visiting the "Oratorium"For 15 years, representatives of "Płomyk" have been visiting children and educators from the Catholic Preventive and Educational Center "Oratorium" in Przemyśl. The last visit took place in mid-April this year. The meeting was attended by a legend of local blood donation, Zdzisław Wójcik [paywall]. The president of "Płomyk", who has held this position for over 38 years. He shared with the participants of the meeting, among other things, his knowledge on alerting rescue services, rules of conduct in emergency situations, blood and organ donation. He also conducted a knowledge competition on fire safety and blood donation. What did the young heroes gain?
– I think, above all, self-confidence in the face of danger. They also remembered how to efficiently call for help by dialing 112. They learned about a beautiful, social activity, i.e. the honorary donation of a priceless medicine, which is blood. All this in a friendly atmosphere, in the presence of the director, Sister Ewa Sekita.
– said Z. Wójcik, who gave the children a large teddy bear, received from the District Branch of the Polish Red Cross in Przemyśl.
Tradition had to be followedThe secretary of "Płomyk" Damian Gaweł from KM PSP in Przemyśl and Anna Kowalczuk, who serves in the Rescue and Firefighting Unit of the Przemyśl command, talked about the service of a firefighter and demonstrated some of the equipment used by rescuers. The children were delighted to try on a helmet, clothes or connect a nozzle to a section of a fire hose. At the end of the meeting, tradition had to be fulfilled - the firefighters handed over 130 chocolates that they had brought with them. The most involved people and those who gave the correct answers also received, among other things, a firefighter calendar, key rings.
- Sharing a part of themselves in order to save the life and health of another person is a heartfelt need of many Przemyśl firefighters. They share blood, pass on the chocolate they receive, and conduct safety lessons, which also indirectly save lives and health. I am grateful to Providence that I was able to participate in all previous editions of the Blood-Chocolate Campaign, of which I am the initiator and participant.
– summed up Z. Wójcik.
