20 years is a long time, and for that long the tireless Przemyśl "four" have been organizing the "Przemyśl Dictation", showing that spelling can be something worth having fun with. Dorota Mykita has coordinated this event at the school almost from the very beginning. This year, she was helped in this task by the teachers of the "four" Renata Fedewicz, Urszula Jurczyszyn-Baran and Beata Policht. For 10 years, the texts of the dictation have been prepared by the Przemyśl poet and specialist in spelling challenges Maria Żemełko. This year was no different. 35 students of Przemyśl primary schools (SP No. 1, 4, 6, 11, 14, 15, 16, State Music School Complex, Private Primary School No. 2 KAMON, Private Primary School named after I. Newton, Primary School of the Association of Graduates of the 1st Secondary School), divided into two groups (younger junior and older junior), struggled with two different texts, adapted to the level of difficulty of their age and level of education, full of spelling traps. In order to avoid falling into them, one had to demonstrate excellent knowledge of spelling rules.
At the start, the principal of Primary School No. 4, Agnieszka Kowaliw, and the director of the Przemyśl branch of the Podkarpackie Board of Education, Tomasz Dziumak, wished the writers good luck.
– We will see at least a few of you on May 25 in the Przemyśl Fortress Command Center, where, under the patronage of the president of Przemyśl, the “1st Przemyśl Dictation” will take place, during which students over 14 years of age will be able to test their knowledge of the spelling and punctuation intricacies of the Polish language – these are the words the first of the above-mentioned addressed to the arrived students, noting that everyone interested could take part in the challenge, except for Polish teachers, who were excluded for obvious reasons.
The 1st Przemyśl Dictation will be a joint undertaking of the mayor of the city of Przemyśl and Primary School No. 4. This event will also be an opportunity to officially present awards to the winners of the inter-school stage.
Przemyśl resident with the best spelling skills in PolandThe author of both dictations, M. Żemełko, encouraged the writers just before the start. In turn, the aforementioned T. Dziumak emphasized that initiatives such as this [paywall] cultivated in Primary School No. 4 are very valuable because they strengthen language competences and show that it is worth enriching one's skills in using impeccable Polish. He also reminded that the first national dictation was won by a woman from Przemyśl, a graduate of the 1st General Secondary School in Przemyśl. - Maybe you will also have such laurels ahead of you - he addressed the students.
The dictation lecturers – Dorota Mykita in the younger junior category, and Beata Policht in the senior junior category – tried to make the task easier for the participants by precisely explaining the rules.
There were many spelling traps in the content of the dictations, but there were those among the writers for whom the skillful application of the rules of spelling in the written text was a piece of cake (the names of the winners are in the box).
The students and guests were also treated to refreshments provided by the school Parents' Council, and while waiting for the summary of the competition, they could also watch the play "The Little Prince" performed by students from class 5a, who prepared for the performance under the supervision of Grażyna Klatka. Maria Żemełko also said a few words about her books to the audience. The honorary patronage over the 20th Przemyśl Dictation was held by the mayor of Przemyśl, Wojciech Bakun.
