Independent councillors from Przemyśl oppose the creation of school and kindergarten complexes

Maciej Kamiński, Janusz Zapotocki, Piotr Krzeszowski, and Stanisław Surma – this is a group of independent councilors who – in protest – left the Przemyśl city hall on June 30th. Councilors from the Civic Coalition did the same. As a result, the meeting could not continue, and council chairman Marcin Kowalski was forced to suspend it until Monday, July 28th. That's when a vote will take place on the draft resolution merging Primary School No. 15 with Municipal Kindergarten No. 13 and creating School and Kindergarten Complex No. 1. Provided, of course, that there is a quorum. The summer holiday season isn't conducive to this.

During the press conference, Councilor M. Kamiński, on behalf of himself and his colleagues, read a specially prepared statement. In it, they reiterated their strong opposition to plans to merge independent preschools with public primary schools in the city. They expressed deep concern over this proposal, stating that its implementation would not benefit Przemyśl's youngest residents, namely preschool-aged children.

"(…) No convincing evidence has been presented that these changes will translate into improved quality of education or childcare. However, we are concerned that the decision to merge units is dictated solely by economic considerations, and not by concern for the well-being of the youngest children. Transforming well-functioning facilities into 'experimental' organizational units raises our objections and concerns. The well-being of the child must always come first (...)" – they assured.

In conclusion, they appealed to abandon the plans to merge kindergartens with primary schools and to maintain their organizational independence.
