The "Safe Szczecin" committee is collecting signatures against the establishment of the Foreigners' Integration Centre in the Szczecin district without prior social consultations.

– We are not acting here under the banner of a political party, we represent the residents of Szczecin who are concerned about their safety – say Adrian Włodarczyk, Wanda Koc, Beata Kozłowska and Mirosław Sawicki, representatives of “Safe Szczecin”, who appeared on Friday at the Szczecin City Hall with a petition signed by the city’s residents.

The protesters note that in recent years the problem of illegal immigration has been growing in Poland, requiring an immediate and effective response from the authorities, and expect decisive actions to be taken to ensure security and stop investments that encourage further inflow of immigrants to the Szczecin district.

– We have created a legislative initiative committee to find out what kind of centre is being built here in Szczecin, so that the city council, the city president, the governor... can say what Szczecin is preparing for us here – says Adrian Włodarczyk. – 570 signatures have been submitted so far, they will be added before the next session. We want to find out what is actually planned here in Szczecin, because the city council is not talking about it. And it should take care of the information and safety of the residents.

- First of all, we are concerned about the fact that the residents of the city of Szczecin have not been informed at all about the purpose of these centers, what will happen there, where, for example, those using these centers will be accommodated, where people will come to these centers from. We do not know anything about this, but we do know what is happening on the western border, that immigrants are being transferred to us - says Beata Kozłowska. - Residents are primarily concerned about their safety. We must remember that this will also be a burden on the budget, and we all know what difficult times we live in.

Beata Kozłowska emphasizes that many residents of Szczecin are concerned about the situation, they do not want the center to be built here, and the councilors should accede to the residents' request.

The applicants emphasize that they do not agree to a policy that leads to repeating the mistakes of Western countries and ignores the needs of the local community. ©℗
