Major Demolition on Staten Island: Mayor and NYPD Commissioner Watch Bulldozer Crush Hundreds of Bikes

In the presence of the Mayor of New York and the NYPD Commissioner on Staten Island, hundreds of illegal electric bikes and mopeds – so-called ghost vehicles with fake license plates or no markings – were destroyed.
Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish watched as the city police seized illegal e-bikes and mopeds that were being destroyed in a spectacular fashion. They were lined up in rows and then crushed by a bulldozer.
The wrecked mopeds and electric bikes were among the so-called ghost vehicles, which were confiscated for having no registration number or fake markings. Since Adams took office, city officials have impounded more than 100,000 such vehicles, including cars.
Adams said a large portion of those vehicles were linked to violent crimes, a point supported by NYPD data that shows violent crimes involving ghost vehicles — including robberies — have declined since the force began seizing them.
During the destruction of two-wheelers, an unexpected incident occurred. The battery in one of the electric bikes caught fire.
Previously, the city authorities were offered to resell confiscated bikes. However, the mayor completely rejected this idea, stating that the main goal of the campaign was to ensure safety in the city, not repair its budget.
