Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis for Wacław Kochanowicz

The ceremony was recently organized in the capital of the voivodeship, as part of The 27th edition of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship Marshal's Awards Gala in the field of culture was a celebration of those involved in cultural activities, without whom many valuable projects and endeavors would not exist. Among the winners were cultural creators from our region.

The most important distinction awarded that day was the silver "Gloria Artis" Medal for Merit to Culture, presented to Jarosław painter Wacław Kochanowicz. Voivode Teresa Kubas-Hul and Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship Władysław Ortyl presented the medal to the laureate. The artist was accompanied on the day by the Mayor of Jarosław, Marcin Nazarewicz, the Mayor of Pruchnik, Stanisław Kłopot, and the Director of the Jarosław Municipal Cultural Center, Elżbieta Śliwińska. The "Gloria Artis" Medal for Merit to Culture is awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage to individuals who have particularly distinguished themselves in the fields of artistic creation, cultural activity, or the protection of culture and national heritage.

We've written about W. Kochanowicz's paintings many times. Born in Pruchnik, the artist, known as the "creator of serene beauty," is renowned for his realistic paintings, with over 200 realistic paintings to his credit. They are created using the easel technique of oil on canvas, and the artist draws inspiration from nature, landscape, and the outdoors.

"Wacław Kochanowicz's paintings were, and continue to be, created for the pleasure of looking. They are like medicine in an age of rush, depression, and a lack of understanding of the beauty that, despite everything, surrounds us," says stained glass artist Jacek Krzysztof Nowak about the work of the Jarosław painter.

The artist himself, upon receiving the award, admitted that it was a great joy and distinction to be able to join the ranks of people who have made outstanding contributions to Polish culture.
