Pole among the best architects in the world. Award for planetarium design

Pole among the best architects in the world. Award for planetarium design

The complex is located next to a mountain resort and is connected to it by a gondola lift and footpaths. It houses one of the largest publicly accessible telescopes. The facility houses a 35-seat planetarium, a 65-seat auditorium, a gift shop, an educational area and facilities for planetarium and observatory staff.

Gałczyński designed the Snow King Observatory and Planetarium with the intention of minimizing its impact on the surrounding environment. The entire complex is relatively low so as not to disturb the view of the surrounding mountains. Discreet external lighting also does not cause light pollution and does not interfere with admiring the starry sky at night.

As an architect, Jakub Gałczyński places the relationship between man and the environment and designing with respect for nature at the forefront. According to the jury, the Snow King Observatory and Planetarium fits perfectly into this ethos, which also guides the criteria of this year's A+Awards.

Jakub Gałczyński graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana in 2012. In the following years, he gained experience in small architectural studios in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. He founded his own office less than three years ago.

Among his masters, Gałczyński lists such outstanding American architects as Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe. He is also close to the philosophy of the Chicago studio Studio Gang Architects, which is famous for designing in the spirit of respect for the natural environment.
