Smoke on board! Then an emergency landing. This flight was a nightmare
It was a Saturday evening flight. It all started when the Airbus A320 was already flying calmly at 36,000 feet. At one point, a strange smell of smoke appeared on board, and a moment later, a fire alarm went off. The cabin became tense.
The pilot did not wait a moment – he immediately decided to make an emergency landing. Instead of landing in Bristol as planned, the plane was diverted to Izmir in Turkey. There, it landed safely on the runway, just 80 minutes after taking off from Paphos.
The plane was flying from Cyprus to the UK. Emergency landing in TurkeyIn an official statement, easyJet said: "We can confirm that flight EZY2902 from Paphos to Bristol was diverted to Izmir due to a technical issue which caused a noticeable smell of smoke on board."
Fortunately, everything ended well. "The plane landed safely in Izmir, and the help of emergency services was only a routine and preventive measure. All passengers disembarked normally and went to the terminal," the carrier added.
The airline provided the passengers with hotel accommodations and meals, and a replacement plane was provided that same day to take them to their destination.
EasyJet stressed: "The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority. EasyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturer guidelines."
Although everything ended happily, for many passengers it was a journey they will remember for a long time.
