The fascinating world of cardboard models. A piece of history [PHOTOS]

The fascinating world of cardboard models. A piece of history [PHOTOS]

The originator and the person who supervised everything from the Przemyśl museum was its employee, a modeling enthusiast, the author of, among others, many models of architectural objects in Przemyśl, Tomasz Król. Those interested could admire models in various categories, to name a few: military vehicles, planes, ships, vessels, cars, objects related to agriculture.

A contestant could submit a maximum of three models in one contest category. The models had to be made by hand from original cutouts or legally downloaded from websites. There were also models designed from scratch. In the standard category, the model could be made according to the instructions for its production, not painted. The open category only applied to the "senior" age group. The models they made could be partially or completely painted and significantly enriched with additional elements. Anyone who had the opportunity to see these gems with their own eyes did not fully believe that the only material was cardboard. The multitude of details and the difficulty of their production were astonishing.

- This is the first time we have hosted such an event, but I think it will not be the last. I am very impressed. It is a piece of history and a great way to present this history in such an original way. There are several dozen participants from all over Poland, and over a hundred works are exhibited.

– said MNZP director Jan Jarosz.

The main prize was funded by the 1st Tank Battalion from Żurawica.

– I am incredibly impressed by the effort put in. When I was young, I tried to glue models myself, but plastic ones. I put together two paper ones, but looking at these here, my performance was total amateurism. There are models that have been reproduced from the original as closely as possible. Something incredible. For example, one of the vehicles has track links numbered, in accordance with reality. It is extremely difficult, but the author managed to recreate such a detail, including the corrugated sheet metal, which the contractor must have seen in reality. Yes, we funded the main prize with a historical, original track link from a Renault FT-17 tank, which were stationed in the battalion in Żurawica before the war.

– said the commander of the 1st Tank Battalion in Żurawica, Lieutenant Colonel Marcin Komorek.
