Andy Warhol in Warsaw! See and then bid on two works by the king of pop art

As part of the exhibition preceding the summer Art Auction of the Polswiss Art auction house, you can currently admire two works by Andy Warhol. One of them could be worth up to PLN 10 million!
Until June 3, the Polswiss Art auction house is hosting an exhibition of works from the summer Art Auction catalogue.
It presents over a hundred works from private collections, including works by Jan Matejko , Jacek Malczewski , Józef Mehoffer and Wojciech Fangor .
There is also a real treat for art fans, as Warsaw residents can admire two works by a true legend, Andy Warhol .
Andy Warhol is sometimes called one of the most important artists of the 20th century. He was a precursor and one of the main representatives of pop art . His works, such as those Campbell's tomato soup cans, the portrait of Marilyn Monroe or the cover of The Velvet Underground's debut album (yes, the one with the banana!) are probably known to everyone today.
Portrait of Katie Jones by Andy WarholAmong the works on display was a 1973 portrait of photographer and art collector Katie Jones . The work is one of Warhol's most iconic.
From the auction catalogue we learn that the work was created using acrylic and screen printing techniques, for which the artist was known.
- Before Warhol painted Kate's image, he first prepared the painterly base. He decided on a juicy fuchsia as the background, highlighted the girl's eyelids and lips with blue and red, and with sweeping brushstrokes, he painted her patterned blouse. Only on the canvas thus prepared did he print the black outlines of his friend, as she looks serenely upwards, as if lost in thought - we read.

Another work by Warhol that can be seen during the exhibition is the painting "To Greta Garbo" , which shows the artist's passion for... shoes.
The watercolor and ink work depicts the shoe of actress Greta Garbo , with whom Andy Warhol was reportedly obsessed.
- In the 1950s, during a New York picnic, he managed to meet her once. At that time, all nervous, he gave her his drawing of a butterfly. However, a moment later she crumpled the picture in her hand and threw it away, which the artist noticed, got it back and gave it the title "Crumpled Butterfly by Greto Garbo" - we read in the catalogue.

According to experts from the Polswiss Art auction house , the portrait of Katie Jones could be worth up to PLN 10 million, while the work "To Greta Garbo" is worth around PLN 1.2 million.
All will be revealed on June 3, 2025 during the Art Auction. You can bid in person, by phone, or online.
