Marta Cienkowska, the new Minister of Culture

The changes in Donald Tusk's government also affected the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Marta Cienkowska, a political scientist, culture manager, and EU funding specialist, has been appointed its new head.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the composition of his reshuffled government. One of the most prominent names in the new configuration is Marta Cienkowska , who has taken over as Minister of Culture , replacing Hanna Wróblewska . Previously, she served as Undersecretary of State in the same ministry, and the Prime Minister describes her promotion as "a very good move."
"He has boundless energy and a very forward-thinking approach," Tusk emphasized. "At the same time, despite his young age, he has experience in activities that are needed in this area."

The new Minister of Culture was born in Ciechanów in 1987. She graduated with a degree in political science from the University of Warsaw and then with a degree in cultural management within the EU at the Polish Academy of Sciences. She also holds a High Performance Leadership certificate from the Institute of Business Development.
She has implemented several hundred cultural and educational projects, including international ones. Her theatre productions have been presented in countries such as Germany, France, and China. She has collaborated with non-governmental organizations, advised on securing European funding, and led marketing campaigns for cultural institutions.
As Deputy Minister from 2023 to 2025, she oversaw EU funding, the sector's digital transformation, and international cooperation . Among other things, she coordinated the "Culture Sparks Unity" program, which encompassed nearly 100 events in over 20 countries and hundreds of initiatives in Poland. She also participated in EU work on supporting young creators and reforming the AVMS audiovisual directive.
Close to local communitiesAlthough today she works in the central structures of the state, Marta Cienkowska emphasizes her origins from a smaller town.
– I left Ciechanów to have a chance to develop, but the “provincial spirit” is always in my heart – she wrote on the website of Poland 2050, on whose behalf she ran in the 2023 parliamentary elections.
The new minister announced that she will particularly support culture in smaller towns and grassroots initiatives. In her work to date, she has consistently emphasized the importance of women's role in the cultural sector – both as creators and leaders.
The third person to head the ministrySince the beginning of the current coalition's term, the Ministry of Culture has been led by three people: Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, Hanna Wróblewska, and now Marta Cienkowska . The new minister takes office with a strong professional and political base. Will she be able to bring more stability and long-awaited changes to the cultural sector? Time will tell, but the first step has already been taken.
