Farmers in Poland will have a problem. All because of the war between Israel and Iran

Today, we are all wondering how EU tariffs on fertilizers imported from the East will affect the cost of their purchase and the competitiveness of European farmers, writes farmer.pl . These decisions coincide with the growing conflict in the Middle East, as well as with information about the suspension of fertilizer production by Egypt - the country has been cut off from gas supplies from Israel, a key raw material in the production process . The Egyptian government is working to secure alternative sources - mainly LNG - but the restoration of full activity depends on the stabilization of gas supplies.
The fertilizer market is getting nervous . And what happens thousands of kilometers away may decide on the costs of crops in Poland - the editorial team argues.
Priority: production plants in EuropeWhat should European farmers really expect soon in terms of fertilizer availability? Is the European Union prepared for these complications? Will farmers be able to count on support – as well as EU fertilizer plants?
Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski clearly emphasizes in farmer.pl that it is necessary to take care of domestic and EU fertilizer production.
" We need to balance the interests of farmers and the situation of our production plants. It's not an art if something is cheaper today and later it can harm the future of our plants," he says.
The informal meeting of agriculture ministers, chaired by Minister Czesław Siekierski, as part of the Polish presidency of the EU Council, ended on Tuesday.
Emergency Fertilizer Purchases in the United States? 'We Should Consider This'During a press conference, Christophe Hansen, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, emphasised that securing EU fertiliser production is a strategic issue.
"Tariffs can have an impact on prices - this is only the first stage. We need to do our homework. We still have fertilizer plants in the European Union, although they have lost competitiveness . I think with new incentives they can regain it. There is a margin to increase production and this should be our main area of work," the commissioner assured.
As indicated by farmer.pl - at the end of the conference the commissioner emphasized that fertilizers from the USA may also be a solution .
- We will monitor the development of fertilizer prices very carefully and react if necessary. Because when we talk about tariffs, it is not only about Russia and Belarus. There is also the United States, which also produces fertilizers. We are in talks about tariffs - purchasing fertilizers from the US may contribute to the de-escalation of this conflict and we should also take this into account - the editorial office quotes the commissioner in its pages.
