Szczecin will have a second incinerator. It will be built next to the existing one

- A plant for thermal disposal of medical and veterinary waste will be built in Szczecin.
- The plant would manage medical and veterinary waste from the Szczecin Metropolitan Area.
- Currently, in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship there are no installations with sufficient processing capacity that could process the above-mentioned waste in a manner consistent with legal requirements.
A new installation will be built on the premises of the Szczecin Waste Disposal Plant. The plans include building the EcoGenerator, a thermal plant for the disposal of medical and veterinary waste, next to the municipal waste incinerator. On Tuesday, June 17, a company was established to carry out the investment.
Manage medical and veterinary waste from the Szczecin Metropolitan AreaThe company will operate as a Medical Waste Disposal Plant, and the partners are the West Pomeranian Regional Development Agency, the Waste Disposal Plant and the Pomeranian Medical University.
The task of ZUOM will be to implement an investment consisting in designing, building and operating a plant for the disposal of hazardous, medical and veterinary waste, which will meet the requirements of the best available technology - BAT (Best Available Technology).
The plant would manage medical and veterinary waste from the Szczecin Metropolitan Area. Currently, there are no facilities in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship with sufficient capacity to process the aforementioned waste in a manner consistent with legal requirements.
Thanks to the installation, entities from our city that generate this type of waste could manage it in the immediate vicinity, without incurring the costs of transporting it outside the province.
- emphasizes Anna Folkman from the Waste Disposal Plant.
Securing healthcare facilities and veterinary clinics in Szczecin and the surrounding areaThe installation is to be built in Ostrów Grabowski in Szczecin, in the immediate vicinity of EcoGenerator - a municipal waste incinerator. Its capacity is planned for 5 thousand tons of waste per year. Such capacity would allow for securing health care units and veterinary clinics from Szczecin and the surrounding area and would not compete with the activities of the existing medical waste incinerator in Gryfice.
The ZUO already has a Functional-Utility Program together with an estimated cost statement for the planned investment and has obtained a decision on environmental conditions for the project from the Mayor of Szczecin.
The installation is expected to start operating at the turn of 2027 and 2028. The estimated investment cost is approximately PLN 160 million net. ZUOM intends to apply for construction funding from the National Environmental Protection Fund.
