Geothermal energy is the future of heating plants. Time to sum up an important project

- The project “Heating Plant of the Future – Discover Geothermal Energy” is an undertaking whose aim was to present geothermal energy to local governments and thermal energy companies in a new format of operation.
- As part of this initiative, a conference, workshops in various parts of Poland, and study visits were held, which enjoyed great interest.
- On June 26, a conference summarizing the project will be held in Warsaw, during which specialists, practitioners and experts will discuss important aspects of the development of geothermal energy in Poland.
The project, carried out by Geotermia Polska with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, was an important element in building ecological awareness and promoting renewable energy sources. The initiative concerned popularizing knowledge about geothermal energy and increasing its share in the energy market.
"Heating Plant of the Future – Discover Geothermal Energy" is also a platform for cooperation between experts, investors and local communities.
We work to increase the share of geothermal resources in modern heating. We invest, plan and implement projects to develop the renewable energy sector in Poland based on the exploration and exploitation of thermal water deposits.
– emphasizes Łukasz Białczak, president of the company.
Here were the specific objectives of the project:
- expanding knowledge by local governments and thermal energy companies about the geological structure, the process of drilling holes, the construction and operation of geothermal heating plants
- familiarization with financing options for geothermal projects
- increasing the share of geothermal energy in the energy market
- minimizing the risk of investments by providing substantive support to investors
- promoting Poland's geothermal potential among local government officials and private investors.

As part of this initiative, a conference, workshops in various parts of Poland, and study trips were held, which enjoyed great interest.
Meetings with market specialists were an excellent opportunity to learn about good practices and experiences in drilling holes and building geothermal heating plants. The aim of the workshops was to provide substantive support to investors at the planning and implementation stage of geothermal projects. The speakers, including geologists, drillers, heating engineers, representatives of supervisory bodies and financing institutions, shared their knowledge on planning and implementing geothermal investments, and also indicated possible sources of financing.
Geothermal energy is not just a scientific discipline or another project to be implemented through public procurement, but a real business development – the heating industry. We base our efforts on scientific knowledge, the experience of specialists and practitioners from the market.
- adds Łukasz Białczak.

The workshops covered a wide range of topics:
- Geology – geological structure, geothermal potential.
- Drilling – technology for drilling a geothermal well, optimal location of the well in terms of deposits and heating, comprehensive supervision over the implementation of the investment.
- Heating – design of surface installations, construction of geothermal heating plants, exploitation of geothermal water, trends in design and an overview of available solutions.
- Legal and financial aspects of geothermal projects – project financing options, maintenance costs, investment outlays, legal regulations and necessary documentation.
The project also included the creation of an online platform www.odkrytageotermie.pl and an educational film.
Time to sum up the project "Heating plant of the future - discover geothermal energy"The conference summarizing the project will be held on June 26 at the Targowa Creativity Center in Warsaw . The event will be opened by prof. dr hab. inż. Krzysztof Galos, Chief Geologist of the Country, Ministry of Climate and Environment and Łukasz Białczak, president of Geotermia Polska. The program includes lectures with invited guests and expert panels.
The following people have confirmed their participation in the conference as panelists: Krzysztof Witkowski – mayor of Koło, Jarosław Margielski – mayor of Otwock, Lucjan Chrzanowski – mayor of Żyrardów, Tomasz Latocha – mayor of Brzesko.
