Who will be the new Fed chairman? More favorites are on the list.

Who will be the new Fed chairman? More favorites are on the list.

President Donald Trump's selection of the new chairman of the United States Federal Reserve is generating increasing excitement.

The term of current Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, who is in his second term, ends in May 2026. Therefore, the search for his successor has been underway for some time.

So far, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessett, former World Bank President David Malpass and current Fed board member Christopher Waller have been mentioned as potential favorites .

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, the two most likely candidates for the position are Kevin Hassett and Kevin Warsh.

The former is an advisor to the White House and serves as director of the National Economic Council, while the latter was an economic advisor to President George W. Bush and served on the Fed Board of Governors.

The question remains what position both men take on future interest rate cuts. Donald Trump has been arguing for several weeks that rates should be kept at 1%.

Powell has a decidedly different opinion, believing that there are too many unknowns in American economic policy and that the impact of tariffs on inflation cannot be fully estimated.

Therefore, interest rates are still maintained in the range of 4.25-4.50 percent, which , according to the president, limits domestic investment and limits the granting of consumer loans by banks.
