Germany forced to sell some gas assets. State aid in the background

Uniper is selling its 18.26% stake in AS Latvijas Gaze to Energy Investments. This is one of the conditions the company must meet under EU state aid law. The companies did not disclose the value of the transaction.
On December 20, 2022, the European Commission approved a stabilization package for Uniper under EU state aid law. As part of its approval, the EC specified a number of structural remedies that the company must comply with.
The package stemmed from the company's difficult situation after the Russians terminated its gas supply contracts. The government in Berlin had to intervene.
Uniper, headquartered in Düsseldorf, is a European energy company operating in over 40 countries . The company employs approximately 7,500 people. Its operations include power generation in Europe, global energy trading, and a broad gas portfolio.
