Poland in the Eurozone? Domański spoke about the work

EU finance ministers will give the green light to Bulgaria on Friday to introduce the common currency on 1 January 2026. The meeting was chaired by the head of the Polish Ministry of Finance, Andrzej Domański, who announced that Poland was not working on joining the eurozone.
The European Commission announced on June 4 that Bulgaria has met the so-called convergence criteria and can join the eurozone on January 1, 2026. It will then become the 21st European Union member state to use the common currency.
The matter will be decided on Friday by the finance ministers of the member states, who will adopt recommendations on the matter. This will pave the way for the finalization of legal acts enabling Bulgaria to introduce the euro by January 2026 at the latest.
"The macroeconomic situation in Poland is different than (...) Bulgaria," said Domański, when asked about the prospects for introducing a common currency in the country. "We have one of the highest rates of economic growth in the EU, the lowest unemployment, and growing investments," he listed.
" Poland is not currently working on joining the eurozone, " he announced. "In my opinion, this state is optimal. Poland does not currently meet the convergence criteria, so this discussion is in fact a substitute discussion, " Domański added.
The EU member states that remain outside the eurozone are, alongside Poland and (until the end of the year) Bulgaria: Sweden, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Denmark.
The convergence criteria are: price stability (low inflation), stable public finances (budget deficit below 3% of GDP and public debt below 60% of GDP), exchange rate stability (participation in the so-called ERM II mechanism, the so-called euro zone waiting room, for at least two years without serious exchange rate disturbances) and convergence of long-term interest rates (the average nominal long-term interest rate may be up to 2 percentage points higher than the average interest rates in the three EU countries with the lowest inflation).
