End of sick leave payments under the old rules. Sick pay to be eliminated

End of sick leave payments under the old rules. Sick pay to be eliminated
  • Changes to the rules for paying out sick leave have been discussed for several months.
  • This is one of the election promises of the Civic Coalition
  • The plan assumes that sick pay will be abolished, and in return ZUS will pay sickness benefit from the first day of sick leave.

Today, the rules for sick leave payments for L4 are as follows:

  • sick pay is paid by the employer for the first 33 days (or 14 days for people over 50 years of age)
  • Then, the person incapable of work receives a sickness benefit financed from the Social Insurance Fund, which is due from the 34th or, respectively, from the 15th day of incapacity for work in a calendar year.

The plan assumes revolutionary changes: sick pay would be abolished, and in return ZUS would pay sickness benefit from the first day of sick leave.

Changes in medical certification for sick leave

Representatives of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy inform that the introduction of new regulations will require changes in the area of medical certification, which will enable increased effectiveness of control of medical certificates, as well as changes in the scope of control of the correct use of sick leave.

- Further processing of the bill will be possible after the decisions of the Economic Committee of the Council of Ministers and entry into the List of legislative and programmatic works of the Council of Ministers - it was indicated in response to a parliamentary question.

As rynekzdrowia.pl reports, the ministry also announced the completion of inter-ministerial agreements and public consultations on the draft act amending the act on the social insurance system and certain other acts. This draft contains proposals for reforms of medical certification, control of issuing medical certificates and control of the correct use of sick leave.
