The voivode recalled that the management of the hospital in Lesko requested the closure of the maternity ward due to, among other things, renovations that need to be carried out in the facility.
- That is why I agreed to suspend the work of the branch from July 1 to August 31. The branch will start operating at the beginning of September - added Kubas-Hul.
The hospital management assured that a transport ambulance will be launched for the duration of the suspension , which will include a paramedic and a midwife. In addition, an additional midwife will be delegated to work in the Emergency Department at the Lesko hospital during this time.
At the press conference, the governor reminded that the hospital in Lesko is in a difficult financial situation, its debt amounts to over PLN 111 million. The facility has loans, among others, in parabanks.
She recalled that there is a plan to create one Bieszczady hospital from three hospitals in Sanok, Ustrzyki Dolne and Lesko.
At the beginning of January this year, the governor appointed a team to prepare various options for changes and the merger of hospitals, discussing financial, legal and organizational issues related to a possible merger.
As Kubas-Hul said, one of the key assumptions is to develop a concept for establishing a single, integrated Bieszczady hospital, leaving one emergency department, and to prepare an opening balance and a recovery plan.
- The heads of the three counties agreed to this plan, because these local governments are the bodies running these three hospitals - she said.
She noted that the current legal status makes it impossible for a hospital to be run by an association of local government units, in this case three poviats.
- That is why in January I submitted a motion to the Minister of Health to change the provisions of this act, which would allow the establishment of a hospital by the association of counties. The draft act, which, among other things, provides such an opportunity, was adopted by the government and will now be processed in the Sejm. As soon as it goes through the entire legislative process and the president signs it, it will be possible to create a Bieszczady hospital based on three existing facilities - said Kubas-Hul.
The voivode recalled at the conference that on July 1 this year in Warsaw a meeting was held with the Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna devoted to the situation of the hospital in Lesko.
The event was attended by, among others, the vice-president of the National Health Fund Jakub Szulc, the staroste of the Lesko district Wojciech Stelmach, the mayor of Lesko Adam Snarski and the director of the SP ZOZ in Lesko Małgorzata Bryndza.
After the meeting, Minister Leszczyna assured that the gynaecology and obstetrics department of the hospital in Lesko will not be closed.
