Vacheron Constantin presents a new Overseas model. It reached for extraordinary technology

Vacheron Constantin presents the Overseas Grand Complication Openface. The company claims it is a true feat of watchmaking. The elegant sports watch, housing a movement just 7.9 mm thick, has a minute repeater, perpetual calendar, tourbillon and - perhaps most importantly - a power reserve indicator.

When you do something exceptional, you have to brag about it. And as Vacheron Cinstantin's press release says, the new Grand Complication Openface is the result of a long and painstaking process to fit a movement with a major complication into an elegant case. In addition to the tourbillon and perpetual calendar , it includes a minute repeater for the first time in the collection.

What's so great about that? Anyone who knows anything about watches knows that achieving water resistance in minute repeater movements is difficult, partly because the slider that activates this function is located on the side of the case.

In the case of this timepiece, the particular challenge was to ensure the tightness of the case and adapt its shape to the Calibre 2755 QP movement, as well as to maintain a slim line. It required a year and a half of work and a complete redesign of the caseback, but… it paid off.

The case, with a diameter of 44.5 millimetres and a thickness of 13.1 millimetres, combines elegance and the spirit of adventure .

Caliber 2755 QP, one of Vacheron Constantin's most recognizable movements, is based on solutions created for the Tour de l'Île watch from 2005. It consists of 602 components in a case with a diameter of 33.3 millimeters and includes a perpetual calendar with indications of the date, day, month and leap year cycle.

Additionally, the mechanism is equipped with a minute repeater that strikes the hours, quarters and minutes on request.

To control the rhythm of the hammer strikes, watchmakers created their own centripetal regulator . This patented device provides precise time intervals for the correct sequence of sounds.

The Overseas Grand Complication Openface is sporty elegance, highlighted by a sapphire dial. It features 18-karat white gold indexes. The hour and minute hands are coated with blue Super-Luminova . The grade 5 titanium bracelet can be swapped for an alligator or blue rubber strap.
