New Treaty with Germany? Poland Skeptical

During the election campaign, Friedrich Merz proposed that "on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the German-Polish treaty of good neighbourliness and friendly cooperation, a new treaty of friendship should be signed, which will raise our bilateral relations to a new level". The CDU leader's plan therefore assumes that the document will be agreed by 17 June next year. "The most urgent thing in Europe is to repair Germany's relations with Poland and France", added Merz, whose proposal was not included in the coalition agreement between the Christian Democrats and the SPD.
